Long Beach, CA (My Sportsbook) - Defending Champ Car Series champion Sebastien Bourdais picked up right where he left off in 2004 and captured Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach event. The No.1 Newman/Haas Racing driver crossed the finish line 4.137 seconds ahead of runner-up Paul Tracy. Tracy, who won the pole on Saturday, led early but struggled to keep up with Bourdais. He led the first two laps before locking his brakes and allowing outside front row starter Bruno Junqueira take the top spot. With no "official" pit windows this year, the lead changed on a number of occasions, but Bourdais, Tracy and Junqueira remained at or near the top for most of the afternoon. Still, when it came to crunch time, Bourdais made the pass on Tracy and didn't error down the stretch to collect his first win of the season and the 11th of his Champ Car career. Junqueira, Justin Wilson and Mario Dominguez completed the top-five. Rookie Andrew Ranger was impressive in his first Champ Car outing and was in the top-10 for most of the day, before a late-race accident cost him a solid finish. The next race is scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd at the Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico.
