Buenos Aires, Argentina (My Sportsbook) - Argentinean striker Gabriel Batistuta retired Monday at the age of 36. Batistuta leaves the game as Argentina's leading international goal scorer with 56 tallies in just 78 matches. He left the national team in 2002 when the squad was eliminated from the group stage of the World Cup. He had been playing for Qatar this season, but due to injuries which limited him to just three appearances, had his contract cancelled by the club last week. Besides for suiting up at home with Newell's Old Boys, River Plate and Boca Juniors, Batistuta made the move to Italy in 1991 and made an immediate impact in Serie A. Not only did he lead Fiorentina to a win in the Coppa Italia, he posted 151 Serie A goals in nine seasons.
