Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Philadelphia Phillies infielder Tomas Perez has reached agreement with the club on a two-year, $1.3 million contract. The deal, which includes a $100,000 signing bonus, will pay Perez $500,000 in 2003 and $700,000 in 2004. "We are very pleased to have Tomas signed for the next two seasons," said Ruben Amaro, the Phillies assistant general manager. "We believe him to be one of the best defensive utility infielders in the league and he has provided some timely offense when he has been called upon off the bench. We look for Tomas to provide the energy and leadership that solid role players have on championship clubs." Perez, 28, hit .250 this season, reaching career highs in home runs (five) and RBI (20), while appearing in a career-high 92 games. Perez was originally signed by the Expos as a non-drafted free agent in 1991, and was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent in December 1999.
