Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with outfielder Aaron Rowand on a two-year contract with mutual options for the 2007 season. Rowand, 27, set career highs in every offensive category in 2004, batting .310 with 38 doubles, 24 home runs, 69 RBI, 94 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 140 games. "Aaron is a player that our organization and White Sox fans have come to embrace because of his all-out style of play," said general manager Ken Williams. "We believe he epitomizes the type of team we are building on the South Side, and it is particularly satisfying to be able to reward a player that we drafted and developed and whose best years we feel are still ahead of him." Rowand, 6'0" and 200 pounds, is a career .290 hitter with 41 home runs and 142 RBI in 422 games, all with the Sox. He was selected by the White Sox out of Cal-State Fullerton with a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds of the June 1998 First-Year Player Draft. Also Friday, the Sox announced that catcher Jamie Burke has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte. The 33-year-old hit .333 in 47 games for the White Sox last season, spending most of the year in the minors. In 72 career games with Anaheim and Chicago, Burke has an average of .331 with 17 RBI.
