=== Braves and Mondesi agree on one-year deal === Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Braves Friday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent outfielder Raul Mondesi. Financial terms were not released. Mondesi split the 2004 campaign between Pittsburgh and Anaheim. He joined the Angels on May 29 as a free agent after the Pirates terminated his contract. The 33-year-old veteran left Pittsburgh to address personal issues in his native Dominican Republic. He failed to return to the Pirates, who then ended their one-year deal with Mondesi. Anaheim also terminated his contract, saying Mondesi failed to perform prescribed rehab work on several occasions since June 17. He was sidelined earlier that month with a torn quadriceps muscle. Mondesi batted just .118 with a homer in eight games for the Angels. In 26 contests for the Pirates, he hit .283 with two homers and 14 RBI. Mondesi made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1993 and was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1994. He has also enjoyed stints with the Blue Jays, Yankees and Diamondbacks during his career and owns a lifetime batting average of .275 with 267 home runs and 843 RBI. |
