Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - The Seattle Mariners reached an agreement with right-handed pitcher Gil Meche on a one-year contract. Although financial terms were not disclosed, reports indicate that Seattle offered the 26-year-old Meche a $2.535 million deal, plus another $225,000 in incentives. "We are looking for Gil to build on his success from the second half last season," Seattle Mariners general manager Bill Bavasi said. "He clearly has the stuff to be a top of the rotation starter and will be a key guy for us this season." Last season, Meche went 7-7 with a 5.01 ERA, but after a stint in the minors, returned to the majors and posted a 6-2 record with a 3.95 ERA in 13 starts after the All-Star break. Seattle's first-round selection in the 1996 draft, Meche is 34-28 with a 4.58 ERA in 86 games (85 starts) in his career with Seattle.
