Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Nick Saban was introduced Tuesday as the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins. "The challenge that is here with a great organization and a great owner in a great part of the country was very appealing," Saban said at an afternoon press conference. "I felt like after 11 years of being a coach in college, I was ready for a new challenge." Saban spent the last five seasons as the head coach at LSU and finished with a record of 48-16. He guided the Tigers to a share of the 2003 national championship and finished 9-3 this season. The Dolphins, meanwhile, had the worst season in franchise history. Miami finished 4-12 and set a team record for losses in a season. The club went 3-11 during its expansion campaign of 1966. Dave Wannstedt resigned as Dolphins head coach on November 9 after a 1-8 start and Jim Bates had been serving as the interim head coach. Saban has had flirtations with NFL teams in the past, including a meeting last season with the Chicago Bears. He took over an LSU program that was 3-8 in 1999 and guided the Tigers to an 8-4 mark with a Peach Bowl victory in 2000, his first season in Baton Rouge. He followed that with a victory in the Sugar Bowl the next year. Saban has NFL experience as an assistant coach with the then-Houston Oilers in 1988 and '89 and as defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns from 1991-94. His first collegiate head coaching job was a one-year stint at Toledo in 1990. Saban spent five years at Michigan State from 1995-99 before taking over at LSU. In 11 years, he has a career record of 91-41-1.
