Lake Forest, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Bears Tuesday announced the firing of Terry Shea, bringing an end to his one-year stint as the team's offensive coordinator. After serving as quarterbacks coach for the high-powered Kansas City offense from 2001-03, Shea was named offensive coordinator by the Bears in January. Expectations were high when he brought the Chiefs system to a Chicago offense that had ranked 26th, 29th, and 28th in total yards the previous three years under John Shoop. However, the Bears' offense was abysmal in 2004, as Chicago finished last in the league in yards per game (238.5), yards per play, passing yards per game, sacks allowed per game, first downs per game, third-down efficiency, and scoring (14.4 ppg.). Under Shea, running back Thomas Jones played well when healthy, but the quarterback position was extremely underachieving. Rex Grossman, Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel, and Chad Hutchinson all struggled and combined for a passer rating of 61.7. Before joining the Kansas City staff, Shea served as the head coach at Rutgers from 1996-2000 and compiled an 11-44 record. He coached for the British Columbia Lions of the CFL in 1995 and served as an assistant on Bill Walsh's staff at Stanford from 1992-94.
