Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (My Sportsbook) - Brazilian great Romario announced his retirement, this according to published reports. Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported Tuesday that the former World Cup winner and FIFA Player of the Year will hang up his boots at the age of 38. The announcement came while Romario was on vacation in Florianopolis. "I've stopped," Romario said. "I can't go on any more. I don't have the will any more." Romario led Brazil to the 1994 World Cup title and earned the FIFA Player of the Year honors for the accomplishment. He also had successful stints in Brazil and Europe during a glamorous club career. The Brazilian striker scored over 500 goals for Vasco de Gama, Flamengo, Valencia, Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Fluminese. A farewell match at the Maracana Stadium in Rio is expected some time in 2005.
