Boise, ID (My Sportsbook) - Micheal Ray Richardson was named the head coach of the Albany Patroons, who will make a return to the Continental Basketball Association next season, pending league approval.

"We are delighted to have Micheal Ray Richardson re-join the Patroons as our head coach," stated Patroons president and owner Ben Fernandez.

Richardson played for the Patroons during the 1987-88 campaign and led the team to a 48-6 record in the regular season. Albany then went on to capture the CBA championship.

Prior to his stint with the Patroons, Richardson spent eight seasons in the NBA after being drafted by the Knicks in the first round (fourth pick overall) of the 1978 NBA Draft.

In addition to New York, he also played for Golden State and New Jersey. In 556 regular-season NBA games, Richardson averaged 14.8 points and 7.0 assists per contest.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I am thrilled to be back in Albany with its great tradition," said Richardson, who most recently served as the community ambassador for the Denver Nuggets.

Meanwhile, former Knicks, Pacers and Spurs head coach Bob Hill was named as the Patroons' special consultant for player recruitment.

"The CBA is excited with the progress of the Albany Patroons organization," said league commissioner Gary Hunter. "From their announced coaching staff to their early onslaught of season ticket sales, the Patroons will be a welcome addition to the league next season."
