Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Twins Tuesday agreed to terms with free-agent infielder Juan Castro on a two-year contract with a club option for 2007. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Castro is an eight-year veteran who spent the last five seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. The 32-year-old, who batted .244 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 111 games last season, is known primarily for his defensive skills and versatility. Castro owns a career .979 fielding percentage and can play all four infield positions. Castro, a lifetime .226 hitter, will be one of four players expected to battle for time at the shortstop position vacated when Cristian Guzman signed with the Washington Nationals last week. Nick Punto, Jason Bartlett and Augie Ojeda also figure to be in the mix. A native of Los Mochis, Mexico, Castro originally signed with Los Angeles in 1991 and played three major-league seasons with the Dodgers before being acquired by Cincinnati in 2000.
