Moscow, Russia (My Sportsbook) - Russian coach Georgi Yartsev is in desperate need of a win when he leads his squad into Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Estonia.
Russia, which is coming off a flop this summer at EURO 2004, has just four points after three UEFA Group 3 qualification matches. They are also coming off an embarrassing 7-1 loss to Portugal in its last game.
The poor state of the team has put Yartsev and Russian Football Union president Vyacheslav Koloskov in danger of losing their respective jobs. The Russian leaders, including president Vladimir Putin, have publicly expressed their displeasure with the sports programs in the county and could take over if things do not improve quickly.
Yartsev called in five players who were not part of the squad for the defeat against Portugal. Lokomotiv Moscow captain Dmitry Loskov, Torpedo's Igor Semshov, Zenit's Vladimir Bystrov, CSKA's Alexei Berezutsky and Rubin's Roman Sharonov were the additions to the team. Denis Kolodin and Lyubomir Kantonistov were dropped from the squad.
