Mexico City, Mexico (My Sportsbook) - Bruno Junqueira captured the provisional pole for Sunday's Champ Car finale - the Gran Premio Telmex- Tecate. The No.6 Newman/Haas driver circled the 2.786-miles course in one minute, 27.565 seconds on his ninth and final lap. The victory earned Junqueira one championship point and a guaranteed position on the front row. Sebastien Bourdais (1:27.822), A.J. Allmendinger (1:27.858), Justin Wilson (1:27.870) and Paul Tracy (1:27.971) completed the top-five. Bourdais leads the championship by 21 points over his Newman/Haas teammate Junqueira. He has had a dominant year, winning seven poles and six races. With the series finale on another road course, the edge will continue with the Frenchman because five of his six wins and all seven poles were earned on road courses. A seventh win in 2004 would tie Bourdais with Alex Zanardi (1998), Juan Montoya (1999) Cristiano da Matta (2002) and Tracy (2003) for second most in a single season. "I'm going to work very hard in Mexico City to try to fight for the championship," said Junqueira. "I know it won't come down to my race alone; Sebastien has to have a problem, but if he does I want to be right there so I can fight for it." Tracy won the pole last year with a time of 1:28.842. The final qualifying session is set for Saturday at 2:45 p.m. (et) and the race is scheduled to begin on Sunday at 4 p.m. (et).
