Grand Prairie, TX (My Sportsbook) - Singletary, named for former NFL great Mike Singletary, held off Antonius Pius to win the $1.68 million Breeders' Cup Mile on the turf. The time for the mile was 1:36.90. The Mile was the only Breeders' Cup event this year to have the maximum 14 starters. The front running Soaring Free tried to steal the race on the lead by setting a slow pace. At the top of the stretch a herd of horses were in contention for the race. Singletary, ridden by David Flores, found running room at the furlong pole and posted a neck victory over Antonius Pius. Finishing third was last year's winner of the Mile, Six Perfections. Post-time favorite, Artie Schiller finished 12th. Singletary is owned by Little Red Feather Racing and trained by Donald Chatlos, Jr. The four-year-old adds $873,6000 to his earnings, which now total more than $1.4 million. Singletary returned $35.00, $15.60 and $9.80. Antonius Pius paid $37.60 and $13.60, and Six Perfections paid $5.00.
