Grand Prairie, TX (My Sportsbook) - Ashado, ridden by John Velazquez, has kicked off the 21st edition of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships with a solid win in the Breeders' Cup Distaff at Lone Star Park. The three-year-old broke from the inside post in the 11 horse field. She was racing along the inside for most of the 1 1/8 mile race as Tamweel set the pace. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Ashado burst out of the pack in mid-stretch to take the lead with about a furlong to run. At the wire she was 1 1/4 lengths in front of Storm Flag Flying, who was making her final career start. Finishing third was another three-year-old Stellar Jayne. The time for the $2 million race was a track record 1:48.26. Ashado is owned by Starlight Stables and gives trainer Pletcher his first Breeders' Cup victory. She adds $1,040,000 to her bankroll which now totals $2,870,000. Ashado returned $6.00, $3.60 and $2.80. Storm Flag Flying paid $7,00 and $4.00, and Stellar Jayne paid $4.80 for show.
