Malmo, Sweden (My Sportsbook) - Malmo FF claimed the Swedish Allsvenskan championship Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Elfsborg. The title was Malmo's 15th overall, but first since 1989. Malmo came into the final round of play even on points but behind on goal differential to Halmstad. A 1-1 draw between Halmstad and third-place finisher Gothenburg, however, gave Malmo the title. The triumph earns Malmo a berth in next season's Champions League qualifying round. Halmstad is forced to settle for a spot in next year's UEFA Cup qualifying action. AIK Stockholm and Trelleborg were both relegated for finishing in the bottom two. Third-from-the-bottom Orgryte will be forced into a playoff for its Allsvenskan life. |
