Surfers Paradise, Australia (My Sportsbook) - Bruno Junqueira captured Sunday morning's Lexmark Indy 300 in Surfers Paradise, Australia. The No.6 Newman Haas driver crossed the finish line ahead of teammate Sebastien Bourdais while under a caution. The win means Junqueira trails Bourdais by 22 points with one race remaining in the championship. A maximum of 35 points can be earned in a single race. The victory was Junqueira's second of the season and seventh of his Champ Car career. The Brazilian becomes the 14th different driver to win the event in 14 races. Pole winner Paul Tracy seemed to have the race in hand when just past the halfway point he spun out while all by himself. He managed to keep the No.1 Lola off the walls, but fell behind Junqueira, Bourdais and Mario Dominguez. When Patrick Carpentier crashed on lap 53 of 57, the leaders came in for a final splash of fuel, but the order off pit road didn't change. The massive cleanup from Carpentier's accident took too long to clear and the race finished under a yellow flag. Dominguez, Tracy and Ryan Hunter-Reay completed the top-five. Bourdais, winner of a series-high seven races, takes his 22-point lead to the final event of 2004, the Gran Premio Telmex-Gigante at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. The race is scheduled for Sunday, November 7th.
