Ashburn, VA (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Redskins signed kicker Jose Cortez and released kicker James Tuthill on Monday. San Francisco 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci decided to cut Cortez last week as he handed the kicking duties to rookie Jeff Chandler. Cortez is just 18-for-24 on field goals this season and failed on two potential game-winning kicks in a three-week span. Tuthill, who was 10-of-16 on field goals, was signed after Brett Conway injured his leg in the season opener. The Redskins also signed punter Craig Jarrett on Monday to replace Bryan Barker, who needed surgery for a broken nose he suffered when he tried to recover a blocked field goal on Thanksgiving against the Cowboys. Seattle cut Jarrett at the end of training camp after it selected him with its sixth-round pick.
