(My Sportsbook) - You knew the NFL-record, 19-game winning streak meant something to the
New England Patriots when head coach Bill Belichick took time between frowns to smile and finally enjoy what his team accomplished after their 24-10 win over the hapless
Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
"I told the team they should be proud of what they accomplished, something that no other team in pro football has done," said Belichick, who was also doused his team. "But that being said that's not our ultimate goal -- to win four games. We're going to try to do a little more than that."
The Patriots (4-0) haven't lost since September 28, 2003 at Washington and broke the record of 18 consecutive wins shared by five teams, including the 1972-73 Miami Dolphins.
Things got so giddy in Foxboro that Belichick was even the victim of a Gatorade shower by members of his team in the closing seconds.
"To lead a team to 19 victories in a row is something to be proud of," said safety Rodney Harrison, who did the pouring along with defensive lineman Richard Seymour. "He's the captain of the ship and we wanted to let him know we feel grateful to him."
DILLON INJURED?
Corey Dillon played just one play in the fourth quarter of his team's win on Sunday and neither he nor Belichick offered an explanation as to why after the game.
"I don't think I'm inclined on speaking about the injury," Dillon said, thereby acknowledging some type of injury took place. "It was a coaching call. Me, being who I am, I have to follow the rules and that's where we left it. I feel good."
Leading 17-7 midway through the third quarter, Dillon scampered 36-yards down the left sideline giving the Patriots a first-and-goal from Miami's four-yard line. Dillon then left the game after the run and was replaced by Rabih Abdullah, who scored his first NFL touchdown four plays later on a one-yard plunge.
On Dillon's one play in the final 15 minutes, he was flagged for a holding penalty on a Tom Brady incompletion. However, he said he could have played if called upon.
"If that was the decision that was made, and if it was up to the coaching staff to put me back in, I would have been able to deal with what they told me to do," Dillon said. "But that's not the situation."
INJURIES: In addition to Dillon's apparent minor injury, the Pats played Sunday's game with just four active wide receivers as Troy Brown, Deion Branch and Bethel Johnson were all deactivated against the Dolphins. Brown (shoulder) and Branch (knee) were listed on the injury report during the week leading up to the game, while Johnson was a surprise scratch in what Belichick described as a "coaching decision."
Running back Kevin Faulk saw his first action of the season.
UP NEXT: The Pats hope to keep rolling at home this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks before a potential showdown of unbeatens on October 24 against the New York Jets in Foxboro.
