(My Sportsbook) - With quarterbacks Jay Fiedler and A.J. Feeley all banged up after Sunday's 24-10 loss to the
New England Patriots, Miami head coach Dave Wannstedt might be forced to use his third quarterback in six games this coming Sunday.
Fiedler suffered a rib injury when he was sacked by New England's Rodney Harrison on a second-down play inside the Patriots' five-yard line with just over two minutes to play.
Feeley came on and completed a pass on third down, then threw incomplete on fourth down. He sustained a concussion on Miami's last offensive play when he was drilled by linebacker Rosevelt Colvin after releasing the pass.
Fiedler completed 20-of-41 passes for 251 yards with one touchdown, but was also intercepted once and lost a fumble. The turnovers led to a pair of New England touchdowns.
"Jay and A.J. are both doing better than (Sunday) from a health standpoint," said Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt. "I really don't have any more information at this time. We will evaluate them and then see where they're at on Wednesday morning as far as practice and who can do what and exactly where their health is."
If neither quarterback can play against the winless Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Miami is expected to give third string signal-caller Sage Rosenfels his first NFL start. Rosenfels has thrown just nine passes over the last two seasons with Miami after being acquired from the Washington Redskins in 2002.
"If Sage would be called on, he would be ready," said Wannstedt. "He's always handled himself well from a professional, get-yourself-ready-to-perform standpoint. He's been around here for a few years, so he knows what it takes. We'll just have to wait and see."
In addition to not knowing who his QB will be this week, Wannstedt does not know who will start at running back, as Leonard Henry, Brock Forsey and Sammy Morris are all healthy.
"You know what, the running back thing, I don't know," Wannstedt said. "I really don't know at this point. We're going to play all three of them. We'll see how Sammy Morris is. He played more than he's played, so we'll see how his health situation is."
Henry, who had 10 yards on five carries in Sunday's loss, started his second consecutive game Sunday, but Forsey came in in the second quarter and carried the ball 13 times for 44 yards.
"We wanted to give Brock an opportunity," Wannstedt said. "Leonard is probably a more powerful runner, faster. Brock has real good vision as far as making cuts. Some of the things they were doing defensively, we thought he might bring something to the table. He did a good job."
FISH GEARING UP FOR BATTLE OF AFC LEAST
There used to be a time when a Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins matchup meant something. Division titles used to hinge on these meetings. Unfortunately this is not one of those seasons, as the only thing being played for on Sunday will be the right to be called the worst team in the NFL.
Buffalo is off to an 0-4 start for the second time in four years, while the Dolphins come into the tilt at 0-5, their worst start since losing the first five games of their inaugural 1966 campaign. Miami has also scored the fewest points in the league with 42
Before this upcoming contest, the lowest point in the rivalry was October 26, 1969 when 2-4 Buffalo visited 0-5-1 Miami and left with a 30-21 loss. The Bills were 2-10 in 1976 when they lost at the 5-7 Dolphins, 45-27. Buffalo ended the season 2-12, while Miami went 6-8. That was the last time both teams finished with losing records in the same year.
"We're all desperate for a win," said Bills free safety Izell Reese. "We're desperate for a win. They're desperate for a win. Whoever gets that "W,' it may well be the telltale point that turns things around for them. Definitely for us."
INJURIES: The Dolphins also lost kicker Olindo Mare in pregame warmups Sunday to a strained calf. That forced the club to use rookie punt returner Wes Welker, who kicked a 29-yard field goal and converted an extra point. Mare will be re- evaluated on Tuesday or Wednesday.
