=== Niners' Peterson to have season-ending surgery === San Francisco, CA (My Sportsbook) - San Francisco 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson will undergo surgery on his torn left Achilles' tendon Tuesday which will officially end the All-Pro's season. Peterson suffered the injury during the first quarter of Sunday's 31-28 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The fifth-year veteran's services will be greatly missed by a San Francisco defense which has allowed an NFL- worst 137 points over the first five games. A Pro Bowl selection in each of the last two seasons, Peterson had racked up 27 total tackles and three sacks in 2004. The 49ers may also be without tight end Eric Johnson, who cracked a rib during the Arizona game, for Sunday's contest at the New York Jets. Johnson, who caught 13 passes for 162 yards against the Cardinals, will likely not practice during the week and will be a game-time decision. |
