(My Sportsbook) - Two teams looking toward the future begin a season-ending four-game set tonight, as the Kansas City Royals take on the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.
Toeing the rubber for the White Sox tonight will be 25-year-old lefthander Mark Buehrle. The southpaw has won four of his last six starts, including a sterling effort against Kansas City last Saturday. Buehrle limited the Royals to just four hits and a run in a complete game victory. The St. Charles, MO native struck out six and walked one in the win.
Buehrle has made four starts against Kansas City this year, going 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA. In his career, Buehrle has tallied a 9-4 record with a 3.29 ERA versus the Royals.
Chicago snapped a two-game skid on Wednesday with an 11-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Carlos Lee drove in six runs with a grand slam and a two-run homer to lead the White Sox to the win. Lee finished 4- for-5, while Juan Uribe had three hits, including a homer, and scored four times for Chicago.
Ross Gload chipped in a two-run homer and Joe Borchard added a solo shot for the White Sox. He has a 13-game hitting streak.
Freddy Garcia tossed seven scoreless innings in the winning effort. Garcia (13-11) allowed just five hits, walked three and struck out eight. He improved to 9-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 10 daytime starts this season.
Chicago, which is finishing up its season with a seven-game road trip, has registered a 34-43 record in foreign ballparks.
Chicago has won at least 80 games for the fifth straight season. The White Sox were 83-75 after 158 games in 2003.
The White Sox are 10-5 against the Royals this season, including a 2-3 mark at Kauffman Stadium. Since the start of the 2001 campaign, Chicago owns a 46-26 record versus Kansas City.
