(My Sportsbook) - Officially eliminated from the AL Central race, the White Sox will try to get things back on track tonight against the Minnesota Twins at the U.S. Cellular Field.
Chicago fell 8-2 to the Twins on Monday night, helping Minnesota clinch its third consecutive AL Central title. Most of the damage last night came against Chicago starter and loser Mark Buehrle (14-10). He dropped his second game to the Twins in six days, this time getting blasted for seven runs on 10 hits in eight innings of work. Buehrle walked three and fanned three.
Ross Gload and Jose Valentin chipped in two hits apiece for the White Sox, who lost for the sixth time in eight outings.
The White Sox are 31-32 against the AL Central this season with 13 games to play.
The White Sox are 28-37 since the All-Star break, 22-33 since moving a season- high 10 games over .500 at 52-42 on July 24.
Toeing the rubber for the White Sox this evening will be righthander Jon Garland. The Valencia, CA native has been on a roller coaster of late, rotating wins and losses since the start of August. Garland is due for a win after taking a defeat against the Twins last Thursday. The 6-foot-6 hurler allowed nine hits and five runs over seven innings to the Twins last week, while fanning four and walking three.
Garland has made three starts against the Twins this year, going 2-1 with a 5.14 ERA. In his lifetime, Garland has registered a 4-5 mark with a 4.23 ERA versus Minnesota.
Minnesota is 10-7 against the White Sox this season, including a 6-1 record at U.S. Cellular Field. The Twins, who have won seven straight over the White Sox, are 45-29 versus Chicago since the start of the 2001 campaign.
