Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - Detroit Tigers All-Star shortstop Carlos Guillen will have to undergo surgery on the ACL in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Guillen suffered the injury on September 11 against the Minnesota Twins when sliding into third base. He hasn't played since and is expected to have the surgery sometime in the next seven to 10 days. Doctors had to wait for the swelling in his knee subside before determining what the injury was and if it required surgery. The doctors currently don't know if the surgery will be arthroscopic or reconstructive because there is still a significant amount of swelling in the knee. Guillen was hitting .318 with 20 homers and 97 RBI at the time of his injury. The 2004 All-Star set career-highs in each of those categories.
