Raiders Team Report: Awaiting the Jets

(My Sportsbook) - The red hot Oakland Raiders will look to extend their winning streak to four when they take on the New York Jets at the Coliseum on Monday night. It will mark the third time in under a year that the Jets have come calling at the Black Hole.

The squads split two meetings last season in Oakland with the Raiders winning the one that counted in the first round of the playoffs, 38-24.

Oakland has revived its season with three straight wins to climb back into a three-way tie for first place in the AFC West with Denver and San Diego. The Raiders' season appeared on the brink of disaster following their overtime loss to San Francisco in Week 9, which marked their fourth consecutive defeat, but they haven't lost since.

Oakland's hot streak continued last week with a 41-20 blasting of the hapless Arizona Cardinals on the road. Head coach Mike Callahan isn't ready to start focusing on the playoffs just yet.

"It's so early," Callahan said. "We're just starting to get this thing heated up. We'll see how it all comes out. We are still in our third quarter. We've got one more game left until our final four games of the year. We want to do well in this game and finish our third quarter on a positive note."

Oakland possesses the best offense in the NFL with Gannon under center. The veteran signal-caller continues to amaze, throwing for 300 or more yards in veteran signal-caller continues to amaze, throwing for 300 or more yards in eight of 11 starts this season. Gannon added to his legend last week against the Cardinals, hitting on 27-of-45 attempts for 340 yards and three touchdowns. The 36-year-old's focus on every play has helped him complete nearly 69 percent of his passes this season.

"I don't look up at the scoreboard during the course of a game and see how many yards we've thrown for or how many completions we have," Gannon said. "I try to really stay focused on one play at a time. I think that gives you your best chance."

Gannon ranks second only to Jets QB Chad Pennington with a 99.1 QB rating and sits atop the NFL in passing yardage (3,535). The veteran has thrown 22 touchdown passes, while only being intercepted nine times.

"Two of the biggest things for me are the interceptions and the completions," Gannon said. "That's really what I hang my hat on. We don't throw [a lot of] interceptions. I try to lead the league every year in that category."

Gannon's life is made a lot easier thanks to the trio of talented wideouts in Jerry Rice, Tim Brown and Jerry Porter. Rice may be ancient, but he has aged like a fine wine and is on pace for his best receiving year since 1996.

While Brown's yardage has gone down this year, he still is a dangerous weapon in the Raiders' short passing game. Meanwhile, Porter, a third-year player, has reached new heights this season. Last week, Porter hauled in five balls for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

Oakland leads the AFC in yards per contest (412.6), points per game (29.8) and pass yards per affair (310.4). The lone facet of the Raiders' offense that could use some work is its running game, which ranks 11th in the AFC with 102.3 yards per contest. Garner is the Raiders' feature back, but he is almost more of a pass catcher. Don't expect Garner to get any more than 15 carries in this game.

COMING UP: Oakland faces another huge game against the Chargers next week.
