(My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Cowboys have endured a season full of highs and lows. Last week, however, featured a successful performance that resulted in a 21-19 home win over the
Jacksonville Jaguars.
For rookie QB Chad Hutchinson it was a day of firsts. The former Stanford standout earned his first NFL victory by surpassing the 300-yard passing mark (301) for the first time in his career. He also threw a pair of touchdown passes.
"I thought Chad did a good job of hanging in there all day," said WR Joey Galloway, who had seven catches for 144 yards and went over the 6,000-yard milestone in receiving yards for his career. "We know now that we can move the football and we can take it the length of the field. We can say this is a breakout performance offensively, but it doesn't mean much if we don't build on this for next week."
The Cowboys' offense was clicking on all cylinders last week in the victory against Jacksonville. The performance was highlighted by the offense's first three-touchdown day. It also saw its first 300-yard passing game of the season and eclipsed 400 total yards for the first time.
"That was obviously a lot better than it was the last four games," said Dave Campo, whose club snapped a four-game skid with the win over the Jags. "We scored some points on offense and the defense, once again, came up big...it was a perfect example of why this is a team game."
In just his fourth NFL start, Hutchinson was impressive en route to passing for a career-high 301 yards and two touchdowns. He became the franchise's first rookie signal-caller to pass for more than 300 yards since Troy Aikman's 379-yard game against the Cardinals in 1989.
THANKSGIVING DAY SPECIAL
The Cowboys look to continue their offensive resurgence on Thanksgiving Day against a division rival that they have dominated in recent history. The Cowboys have won the last nine games against the Redskins.
"I think when you talk about rivals and winning streaks, you just throw everything out the window and just play," Campo said. "I'm a big believer in that each game is different. For some reason, we've been able to come out on top for a while now. But I guarantee you that it doesn't matter at all this week. I know how we play Thursday will be much more important that the face we've won nine in a row against them.
Dallas' offense needs to bring its best game to the table on Thursday against a Washington defense coming off a very emotional performance. However, Campo pulled no punches when discussing the heated Cowboys-Redskins rivalry.
"We don't like the Redskins and that's it," Campo said. "A lot of things are said and put on bulletin boards. We just don't like the Redskins. It doesn't matter if it's Spurrier, [Marty] Schottenheimer or [Norv] Turner. So we'll have plenty of incentives to win this football game."
It's become an annual tradition for the Cowboys to host a Thanksgiving Day game, as the club is 21-12-1 on the holiday. The team's Turkey Day success has also carried over into its five matchups with Washington, as the 'Boys own a 5-0 mark versus Washington on Thanksgiving.
These clubs are playing each other on Thanksgiving for the first time since 1996. The Cowboys won that game 21-10 on the strength of Smith's 155 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
COMING UP: The Cowboys will host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14.
