Green Bay, WI (My Sportsbook) -
Green Bay Packers cornerback Mike McKenzie ended his lengthy holdout Wednesday afternoon and joined his teammates in preparation for Week 2.
McKenzie, who missed all of training camp and Monday night's win over the Carolina Panthers, met with Packers general manager and head coach Mike Sherman at Lambeau Field to discuss the situation.
"Mike McKenzie is back here to play for the Packers, and that's where we are right now," Sherman said. "We take it one day at a time."
Sherman also noted that McKenzie appeared to be in good shape, but is unsure when he would return to the lineup until he observes him on the practice field.
The Packers (1-0) host division-rival Chicago on Sunday.
"We have a two week window of when to activate him," Sherman added. "He looked like he had been training and he's in shape. That's a positive thing."
McKenzie, a sixth-year defensive back from Memphis, has expressed displeasure with his current contract and did not participate in any of the team's offseason programs. He signed a contract extension on January 7, 2002 through the 2006 campaign.
McKenzie has started at left cornerback all five years he has been in Green Bay. Last season he posted 58 tackles (55 solo), four interceptions and 20 passes defensed.
In 69 career games (67 starts), McKenzie has notched 291 tackles (246 solo), 82 passes defensed, 15 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, one sack and one fumble recovery.
