Richmond, VA (My Sportsbook) - Jamie McMurray captured the pole for Thursday night's Kroger 200 Craftsman Truck Series race in record time. The No.2 Dodge driver circled the 0.750-mile short track in 21.525 seconds (125.436 m.p.h.).
Jason Leffler owned the old RIR qualifying record of 21.884 seconds (123.378 m.p.h.) which he set on September 5th, 2002.
The pole victory was McMurray's first of the season and third of his truck career.
Starting on the front row with McMurray, will be Ted Musgrave, who posted a time of 21.567 seconds.
Todd Bodine (21.629) and David Reutimann (21.666) will start in the second row.
A total of 24 drivers broke Leffler's mark.
Series points leader Bobby Hamilton will start 24th in the field. The Nashville, TN native holds a 96-point edge over Dennis Setzer through the first 16 events (2,415-2,319). Setzer will start 12th on the grid.
"We have been in contention to win just about every time we have been to Richmond," said Setzer. "Some of my worst finishes were my best races, which is pretty darn close to the way we have been running lately."
Setzer's last three races have resulted in finishes of 12th, 19th and 17th.
"There is so much competition in the Craftsman Truck Series," said third-place driver Carl Edwards. "It's anybody's championship at this point. A lot can happen with nine races to go."
The race is scheduled to get underway at 8:45 p.m. (et).
