=== San Diego Padres Team Report - September 8 === (My Sportsbook) - The Padres dropped a 4-2 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals at PETCO Park on Tuesday night. San Diego will tangle with the Cardinals in the last of their three-game set today. Veteran lefthander David Wells will take the hill for San Diego this afternoon. Wells is unbeaten (3-0) over his past five starts, including a no- decision against Colorado last Friday. The southpaw gave up nine hits and five runs -- four earned -- over five innings, while fanning two and not walking anyone. Wells has gone to the mound three times against the Cardinals in his career, going 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA. Wells has not posted a victory at PETCO Park since July 4, when he held the Royals to four hits over six shutout innings. San Diego starter Jake Peavy (11-5) suffered the loss last night after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits with eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Peavy is now winless (0-2) in three career starts against the Cardinals. The Padres are just 35-36 at home this season, while St. Louis is 45-22 on the road. St. Louis has dominated this series, going 27-5 versus San Diego since the start of the 2000 season.
