Dundee, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - A pair of goals from Morgaro Gomis helped Dundee United claim a 3-0 win over Falkirk at Tannadice Park on Saturday, allowing the club to climb to third place in the Scottish Premier League table.
David Goodwillie put United in front after 17 minutes with a successful penalty kick, and Gomis added the final two goals with one coming on each side of halftime.
The win is only the second in six games for United, but it is enough to lift them one point clear of fourth-placed Hibernian, which was held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone on Saturday.
Falkirk remains on the bottom of the table with the loss, and they are two points back of Hamilton, which played to a 0-0 draw with St Mirren.
Early pressure from the home side soon saw them go in front as Goodwillie was tripped inside the penalty area by Falkirk's Tam Scobbie. Goodwillie then stepped to the spot and sent a powerful shot past goalkeeper Robert Olejnik.
Vitor Lima tested United goalkeeper Dusan Pernis with a shot from inside the area, but the hosts claimed a two-goal advantage on the half-hour mark when Goodwillie's shot was saved by Olejnik and the rebound was smacked off the post by Craig Conway before Gomis finally finished off the scramble.
Olejnik produced a good save on Goodwillie early in the second half to keep his side within two goals, but he couldn't keep out a third goal from United as Gomis tallied his second goal of the match three minutes from time after being set up by Dale Hilson.
Hearts overcame Aberdeen, 1-0, despite having a player sent off in the 52nd minute, while Motherwell slipped past Kilmarnock, 1-0, as Jamie Murphy scored the lone goal in the 69th minute.
