Sens try to continue rise to the top versus Flames

(My Sportsbook) - The Ottawa Senators had the longest winning streak in franchise history snapped their last time out, but they will try to bounce back tonight when they welcome the Calgary Flames to Scotiabank Place.

The Senators had won 11 straight before getting blanked by Jean-Sebastien Giguere and the Maple Leafs this past Saturday in Toronto. The 5-0 blowout loss was Ottawa's first setback since losing in Atlanta on January 12.

With 70 points, Ottawa comes into tonight trailing Buffalo by just one point for first place in the Northeast Division. The Sabres are also playing tonight, as they are scheduled to host Boston at HSBC Arena.

Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 30 shots in the first two periods for Ottawa. Elliott allowed three goals in the first period, including two 28 seconds apart toward the end of the frame. He had allowed a total of 11 goals in starting, and winning, each of the Sens' previous nine outings.

Pascal Leclaire, who stopped six of seven shots in the third period on Saturday, could get his first start since January 12 tonight.

The Senators have won five straight on home ice and are playing the first of two straight as the host tonight. Ottawa, which will welcome Washington on Thursday, is 21-8-3 at Scotiabank Place this season.

Calgary had a two-game win streak halted its last time out, but was able to extend its point streak to three games with the overtime loss against Tampa Bay. The Flames, who are seventh in the Western Conference with 67 points, are 3-1-1 since losing nine in a row from January 11-28.

The Flames were dealt a 2-1 loss Saturday in Tampa as Andrej Meszaros scored 1:58 into overtime to lift the Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.

Mark Giordano scored for the second consecutive game for the Flames, while Miikka Kiprusoff allowed both goals on 23 shots.

Rene Bourque suffered an undisclosed injury in Saturday's game and is questionable for tonight, along with fellow Flames forward Ales Kotalik, who was acquired last week in the deal that sent Olli Jokinen to the New York Rangers. Kotalik's current injury is also unknown.

Calgary is capping a three-game road trip tonight and is 15-8-6 as the guest this year. The Flames will play the first two tests of a four-game homestand later this week before the NHL breaks for the Olympics.

The Flames have won their last five battles with the Senators and Ottawa hasn't won in this series since posting a home victory on February 21, 2004. Calgary has won its last two games in Canada's capital city.

The Senators will visit the Flames on March 11 to cap the season series.
