Flushing Meadows, NY (My Sportsbook) - Two-time champion Serena Williams straight-setted fellow American Lindsay Lee-Waters 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the third round at the U.S. Open. Serena handled Lee-Waters in 59 minutes at Ashe Stadium, with the help of 29 winners, including eight big aces. The third-seeded Serena, who titled here in 1999 and 2002 and was the runner- up to her sister Venus in 2001, missed the 2003 Open while recovering from knee surgery. She's a brilliant 28-3 lifetime at Flushing Meadows. Up next for Serena will be 30th-seeded Tatiana Golovin of France. The Russian native Golovin grounded Japanese Akiko Morigami 6-4, 6-4 in second-round action on Day 3 of the fortnight. Twelfth-seeded Japanese Ai Sugiyama erased Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-2, 6-4, while 15th-seeded Swiss Patty Schnyder whipped Czech Iveta Benesova 6-4, 6-1. Resurgent Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova reached the round of 32 with a 6-4, 6-3 upset against 17th-seeded Olympic bronze medalist Alicia Molik of Australia.
