Ashburn, VA (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Redskins named former NFL wideout Keenan McCardell as its new wide receivers coach on Tuesday. "Keenan is an outstanding addition to our coaching staff," Redskins executive vice president and head coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has all the attributes that you look for in one to become an outstanding coach in the National Football League." The 40-year-old, who was selected by Washington in the 12th round of the 1991 draft from UNLV, spent his rookie season on injured reserve for a team that defeated Buffalo 37-24 in Super Bowl XXVI. He then moved on to Cleveland in 1992 and also had stops in Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and San Diego before ending his career with the Redskins in 2007. In 17 seasons spanning 209 games -- 168 starts -- McCardell compiled 883 catches for 11,373 yards and 63 touchdowns. He ranks in 13th place on the NFL's all-time receptions list and 22nd for receiving yardage. McCardell also played a key role in the Buccaneers' win over Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII. As far as coaching, he gained experience by completing a Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship with the New York Giants during the team's 2009 training camp. He also recently coached the West's wide receivers in the 2010 East-West Shrine Game.
