Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant added to his storied career on Monday night, passing Jerry West for first on the franchise's all-time scoring list.
The 31-year-old Bryant entered Monday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies with 25,164 career points, needing 28 points to tie West (25,192) atop the list.
The four-time NBA champion Bryant had 27 points following a slam with just over 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the third quarter. On the next LA possession, Bryant passed West with another dunk off a feed by Jordan Farmar on a breakaway.
Bryant, who ended with 44 points in a 95-93 loss, now has 25,208 career points in his 14th season in the league. He also moved to 14th on the NBA's all-time scoring list with his performance on Monday.
Coming into Monday's game, Bryant was averaging 28 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.7 steals in 48 games this year.
West played for the Lakers from 1960-1974 and recorded 5,366 rebounds and 6,238 assists to go with his 25,192 points in his career. Known as "Mr. Clutch," West won just one championship with LA in 1972.
Following his playing career, West became coach of the Lakers in 1976. During his three years as coach, he led the club to a 145-101 record. West later became GM of the Lakers.
Ironically, West was the general manager of the Grizzlies from 2002-07.
