Memphis, TN (My Sportsbook) - Once again, the
Memphis Grizzlies attempt to capture their first win of the season on Saturday when they host the
Washington Wizards at the Pyramid.
The Grizzlies continued their worst-ever start in franchise history by suffering their 13th straight loss to begin the season on Friday.
Memphis was defeated by the San Antonio Spurs at SBC Center, 95-86.
Mike Batiste scored 18 for the Grizzlies, Pau Gasol added 12 and Shane Battier had 10 points in the losing effort. Memphis fell to 0-5 since Hubie Brown became head coach.
Memphis trailed by just five at halftime, but was outscored 29-13 in the third quarter.
Guard Jason Williams (ankle) missed Friday's game. He is expected to be out another week.
The record for the worst start to a season is 0-17, set by the 1988 Miami Heat and matched by the 1999 Los Angeles Clippers.
The Grizzlies are 0-6 at home this season and 0-3 against the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Wizards have dropped their last two contests, most recently falling to the Rockets in Houston on Friday, 93-86, as Yao Ming scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds in his first ever NBA start.
Jerry Stackhouse paced the Wizards with a game-high 26 points and Larry Hughes added 22, a season-best, for Washington. Tyronn Lue scored 14 off the bench and dished out six assists.
Michael Jordan made just 4-of-15 from the field for eight points, failing for the first time in his career to put up double-digit numbers against the Rockets.
Washington is now just 1-4 on the road this season and 2-3 versus the West.
The Wizards won both meetings with the Grizzlies last season after dropping the previous three matchups. Washington has lost four of its last five road games against the Grizzlies.
