Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Defenseman Hal Gill of Team USA suffered a broken left foot during an exhibition game Monday and will not play in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey tournament. John-Michael Liles of the Colorado Avalanche has been named as Gill's replacement. Gill, of the Boston Bruins, had been named to Team USA to replace Mathieu Schneider. Schneider was unable to play due to his current contract status. Gill is coming off his seventh season with the Bruins. He appeared in all 82 regular-season games in 2003-04 and notched two goals and seven assists. In seven postseason contests, Gill had one assist. He was a three-time member of the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2000, 2001 and 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championships. The World Cup of Hockey will be held across North America and Europe from August 30-September 14. Team USA opens training camp Friday, August 20 in Columbus, Ohio, and will compete in the North American pool along with Canada, Russia and Slovakia. The Czech Republic, Finland, Germany and Sweden make up the European pool.
