Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Tiger Woods tied for second behind Stewart Cink at the WGC-NEC Invitational last week to remain on top of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Woods, who was in danger of being passed be either Vijay Singh or Ernie Els, struggled with the driver at Firestone, but managed a solid result to keep the No. 1 ranking for the 333rd week overall.
Cink, who was chosen as one of Hal Sutton's captain's picks for the U.S. Ryder Cup team last Monday, coasted to a wire-to-wire victory at the WGC-NEC Invitational to move up 13 spots to No. 11 this week.
Singh tied for 32nd and the gap between Woods and the Fijian increased slightly. Singh remains at No. 2. however, and is still within striking distance of the No. 1 ranking. Els, who needed to finish ahead of Woods and Singh last week in Ohio, tied for 65th to hold onto the third spot in the rankings.
Masters champion Phil Mickelson stayed put at No. 4 followed by Davis Love III, who switched spots with U.S. Open winner Retief Goosen to move up to No. 5. Mike Weir held into the seventh position while Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk and Adam Scott rounded out the top 10.
Cink was next at No. 11 and Sergio Garcia was closely behind in the 12th spot. Kenny Perry fell two to No. 13, while Stuart Appleby climbed one space to No. 14. Chad Campbell fell one to No. 15 followed by Darren Clarke, who plunged three positions to come in at No. 16 this week.
Chris DiMarco remained at No. 17, while British Open champion Todd Hamilton dropped two to No. 18. David Toms and Scott Verplank followed to complete the top 20.
Vaughn Taylor survived a four-way playoff at the Reno-Tahoe Open last week to walk away with his first career victory on the PGA Tour. Taylor improved 121 spots to come in at No. 130 this week.
