Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - IndyCar Racing's most popular star Danica Patrick confirmed on Tuesday that she will run a partial schedule in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for JR Motorsports -- a team co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rick Hendrick -- in 2010.
Patrick made the announcement in a press conference in Phoenix, where she currently resides. She was joined by Kelley Earnhardt, who is the vice president and general manager of JRM, as well as the Dale Jr.'s sister. Patrick will drive the No.7 Chevrolet in an unspecified Nationwide schedule, beginning with the February 13 season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. Tony Eury Jr. will serve as her crew chief, and GoDaddy.com will sponsor the team's efforts.
"It's definitely going to be a challenge," Patrick said. "We're not one hundred percent sure of all the details at this points, but the primary focus will be before and after the IndyCar season."
Patrick will make her foray into stock car racing when she competes in the February 6 ARCA Series event at Daytona. The following day, she will be featured in two ads for sponsor GoDaddy.com during the Super Bowl. Patrick will participate in a three-day ARCA test session there December 18-20.
"We're really excited to get moving on it, and it's time now to get to business and learn these cars," Patrick added.
While in Las Vegas last Thursday to accept his seventh consecutive NASCAR "Most Popular Driver" award, Earnhardt Jr. said his sister was in negotiations with Patrick to bring her to NASCAR. He also revealed Earnhardt and Eury Jr., who is his cousin and former crew chief in the Sprint Cup Series, had acquired ownership interest in JRM.
"As the most popular driver in the IndyCar Series and coming over to NASCAR, JR Motorsports is extremely proud to be able to give her this honor and to be the team that leads her into NASCAR," Kelley Earnhardt said.
Last week, Patrick signed a three-year contract extension with Andretti Autosport to remain in IndyCar. She has been with Michael Andretti's team since 2007.
Patrick finished a career-best third in IndyCar points in 2009. She also finished third in this year's Indianapolis 500. In April 2008, Patrick became the first woman ever to win an IndyCar race with her victory in Japan.
