Lakers set for road bout with Golden State

(My Sportsbook) - The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers will renew their rivalry with the Pacific Division-rival Golden State Warriors Saturday night on the road from ORACLE Arena.

The Lakers won all four meetings with Golden State a season ago and have won five straight, 14 of 16 and 21 of the previous 25 matchups between the teams. They've also won the last three encounters as the visitor.

Los Angeles just went 4-1 on a five-game road trip and posted its fourth win in a row with a 100-90 victory versus the New York Knicks on Tuesday at Staples Center. Superstar Kobe Bryant netted 34 points on 14-of-20 shooting, while Andrew Bynum had 17 points and eight rebounds in a winning effort.

"We played the game really well," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. "The third quarter set the issue straight."

Ron Artest scored 17 points to go with seven boards for Los Angeles, which improved to 11-3 on the season.

Golden State hopes to get back on track after having its quick two-game winning streak come to an end with Wednesday's 118-104 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center.

Monta Ellis tied a career-high with 42 points for the Warriors, who have lost 23 straight games at the Spurs and haven't won in the Alamo City since February 14, 1997. Corey Maggette and Anthony Randolph chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, in a losing effort.

"They're a great team. I'm not going to take that away from them. If we just look back at the game we'll see that we did it to ourselves. We made mistakes. They're a veteran team and they converted off of every mistake we made. We didn't do that," said Ellis. "They played hard and made plays when they needed to and got the win. That's all you can say."

The Warriors are 3-2 at home and will also host Indiana on the current residency. The team has played the last two games without head coach Don Nelson, who is battling a case of pneumonia. Assistant Keith Smart will continue to guide the team until Nelson is healthy enough to return.
