Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Daniel Alfredsson scored twice and added an assist as Ottawa took down Buffalo, 5-3, at Scotiabank Place.

Filip Kuba had a goal and three assists while Chris Kelly and Milan Michalek also registered goals for the Senators, who matched their longest winning streak of the season at three games.

Pascal Leclaire stopped 24-of-25 shots through two periods before Brian Elliot came out for the final 20 minutes. Leclaire was lifted after the fact due to an unknown injury, which may have occurred when he did the splits to cover both posts on a breakaway in the second period. Elliot ended with 14 saves and got the win.

Thomas Vanek, Patrick Kaleta and Jason Pominville got the goals for the Sabres, who have lost three games in a row for the first time this season.

Patrick Lalime got the start in net with Buffalo appearing in back-to-back games and was blitzed for all five scores on 26 shots.

Buffalo gained the early advantage on a power-play goal inside the final minute of period number one as Vanek propped himself on the doorstep to slam back a rebound of Chris Butler's blast from the high slot.

Just 50 seconds into the middle session Ottawa answered on the man advantage with Kuba's one-timer from the high slot off a series of crisp touch passes.

Alfredsson snapped one through traffic and by Lalime from deep between the circles at 8:14 of the second for a 2-1 edge. The Senators made it a two-goal game 2:39 into the third period when Kelly deflected a rising shot from Matt Carkner out at the right point.

Ottawa broke out on a 3-on-2 a short time later and Michalek finished off the rush with a backhander into a wide open net 6:11 in.

It was quickly a 5-1 affair 1:49 later as Alfredsson wove through the defense, wheeled and fired from the right circle to beat Lalime for the second time.

The Sabres didn't go quietly, though, as Kaleta emerged from behind the net to redirect a Henrik Tallinder pass through the crease to get one back.

Derek Roy then skated up the right side and passed ahead to Pominville, who snapped off a wrist shot into the far left corner for a 5-3 game with 9 1/2 minutes still to play.

However, Elliot proved to be up to the task the rest of the way as Ottawa held on for the win.

Game Notes
