TRIO NO-HITS CURVE
Dave Crouthers, Andy Mitchell, and Jacobo Sequea combined to hurl a no-hitter and strike out seven batters to power the Bowie Baysox past the Altoona Curve 2-0 in Eastern League action Thursday. Crouthers (8-8) tossed the first seven innings of no-hit ball, issuing four walks, and striking out six batters. Mitchell walked one and struck out one in a hitless eighth inning and Sequea hurled a perfect ninth inning for his 23rd save. Bobby Bradley (4-3) pitched well in the loss as he gave up just one earned run on four hits in five innings of work. Bradley walked two and fanned three in the outing. Gary Cates knocked in one run and scored one run in the win for Bowie. Cates finished 1-for-3. Keith Reed went 2-for-4 and knocked in one run.
CAN'T STOP THE STAMPEDE - BISONS WIN NINTH
Nate Grindell launched his first home run in International League play, while Kyle Denney tossed seven innings of one-run ball to lead the Buffalo Bisons over the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-1. Denney scattered three hits and walked one as he improved to 9-3. Shea Douglas recorded his second save in two innings of work. Grindell's round tripper broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth. Brian Ludwick got Buffalo on the board with an RBI double in the first to score Brandon Phillips. Ludwick finished the contest with two doubles and Ernie Young plated an insurance run in the ninth with a groundout. Tim Kester (11-9) took the loss for Pawtucket. In 8 1/3rd solid innings, he surrendered three earned runs on six hits. Kester fanned nine in the defeat. Pawtucket's only run came on a Tony Schrager home run. The Bisons (75-52) have won nine straight games and maintain a 9 1/2 game lead over Scranton/Wilkes Barre for first place in the North Division. The Pawsox dropped their fourth straight contest to Buffalo and fell to 63-63.

Carlos Quentin was an offensive machine, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and four runs scored, to lead the El Paso Diablos, who again dismantled the Arkansas Travelers, with a 15-3 win. Marland Williams, Jesus Cota, and Conor Jackson each drove in two runs in the win. Mike DiRosa also had a big night, driving in three runs while scoring a pair. Keoni DeRenne chipped in with three hits, including a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored. Sergio Lizarraga (4-10) allowed three runs on six hits in eight innings to pick up the win. Willie Collazo (4-9) was knocked around for eight runs, six earned, on 13 hits in four innings to suffer the loss. Nick Gorneault and Derrick Gibson each hit a solo home run in the loss for the Travelers. In the past two night the Diablos (20-32) outscored the Travelers (21-33), 37-6.
LOOKOUT! - CHATTANOOGA WINS FIFTH IN A ROW
Andrew Beattie won the game with a two-run double as the Chattanooga Lookouts edged the Jacksonville Suns, 4-3, in a Southern League East Division game Thursday night. Winners of five straight games, Chattanooga improved to 37-15 in the second half of the Southern League season while Jacksonville, losers of four consecutive, fell to 20-31. Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Chattanooga got a two-run double off the bat of Beattie and held on for a victory. Benito Baez (2-1) worked two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win and Chris Booker recorded his fifth save with a scoreless ninth. Losing pitcher Franquelis Osoria (7-5) was touched for two runs on one hit in three innings.
STINGERS GET TRAPPED
Ryan Church went 4-for-6, falling a double shy of the cycle, drove in four runs, and scored four runs, pacing the Edmonton attack, as the Trappers blew out the Salt Lake Stingers, 18-5. Val Pascucci homered twice and drove in five runs, while scoring three times in the win. Brendan Harris had three hits, including a homer, and also drove in five runs, while scoring twice. Matt Cepicky and Brian Harris both added three hits and three runs scored, helping the Trappers improve to 62-63. Jeriome Robertson (1-1) took full advantage of the run support and picked up the win. He allowed five runs on ten hits in 6 2/3rd innings. Chris Bootcheck (8-9) was absolutely shelled, allowing 13 runs - six of which were earned - on 12 hits in just 2 2/3rd innings to take the loss. Adam Riggs and Andres Galarraga each drove in a run and scored a run in the loss for the Stingers, who dropped to a league-worst 47-78.
BURGOS NO-HITS CLINTON - IN SIX INNINGS
Ambiorix Burgos was unhittable throught six innings for the Burlington Bees as they blanked the Clinton Lumberjacks, 3-0 in game one of their doubleheader in the Single-A Midwest League. Burgos walked on batter and struck out 13 Lumberjacks to improve to 5-10 on the year. The near no-no was broken up in the top of the seventh when Clinton's Micah Furtado singled off of reliever Gabe DeHoyos, who recorded his first save. Christopher Lubanski and Luis Gonzalez each plated a run in the win. The Lumberjacks' Brian Mattoon (9-6) absorbed the loss.
THREE-HITTER PROPELS DANVILLE TO FIFTH STRAIGHT
Kelvin Villa and Nelson Payano combined on a three-hit shutout of the Princeton Devil Rays, as they Danville Braves won 4-0 in an Appalachian League contest. Villa started the game for the Braves and lasted four innings where he allowed two hits and walked three. He struck out three, while Payano shutdown the Devils Rays over the final five innings to secure the win. Payano fanned four to improve to 2-0. Mark Jurich paced the Danville offense by going 2-for-4 with a run scored, a home run and two RBI. Derrick Arnold belted his second round tripper of the year in the win. Princeton's Chad Redfern (1-3) was dealt the loss in five innings. He allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks.
HALSEY SHINES IN SIX
Brad Halsey tossed six shutout innings and struck out five batters, as the Columbus Clippers blanked the Norfolk Tides, 2-0 in game one of their doubleheader. Halsey scattered four hits and improved to 9-4 with the win. Bret Prinz recorded his sixth save for the Clippers. Sal Fasano and Kevin Reese each drove in a run in the second inning to account for the only scoring in the contest. Fasano plated a run with a sacrifice fly, while Reese singled home Homer Bush. Norfolk's Randy Keisler (6-6) was dealt the loss. In seven innings, he allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Despite the setback, Keisler still fanned seven Clippers. Jeff Keppinger and Javier Cordon were the only two Tides to register extra base hits as they each smacked a double.
