Canucks rally to down Avs on five straight goals

Vancouver, BC (My Sportsbook) - Christian Ehrhoff had two goals and an assist, and the Vancouver Canucks scored four unanswered goals in the third period to upend the Colorado Avalanche, 5-2, at GM Place.

Mikael Samuelsson added a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who have won two in a row since a three-game losing streak. Vancouver, which has already played Colorado four times this season -- winning three -- has won the last two games against the Avs by a combined 13-4 margin.

"It's good every time the defense chips in some offense," Ehrhoff said. "Last game, our third and fourth lines had a big game. Today, the defenseman chipped in. It's good if every game somebody else can chip in."

Steve Bernier and Henrik Sedin also scored in the win, and Roberto Luongo made 22 saves to earn the victory.

Matt Duchene and David Jones both scored for the Avs, who have lost five of six. John-Michael Liles and Wojtek Wolski each had two assists, and Craig Anderson was beaten five times on 28 shots to take the loss.

"You have to keep going for the next goal," Duchene said. "As soon as you start playing with the lead like you're trying not to lose, you're going to lose. We have to learn that; we've done that two games in a row, and we have to stop it."

Down, 2-1, to start the third period, Vancouver quickly took the lead with two goals in a 3 1/2 minute span.

Ehrhoff, who already had one goal at that point, tied the game on a wrist shot that beat Anderson on the right post at 5:12.

At 8:47, the Canucks took their first lead. Alexandre Burrows took a pass as he was streaking down the right side of the ice but lost control; at the same time, Anderson slid down on his side to protect the lower half of the net. Burrows regained control and pushed the puck to Sedin, who was able to flick the puck into a wide-open net for a 3-2 lead.

Bernier tipped an Ehrhoff shot past Anderson on a power play a short time later for a 4-2 Vancouver advantage. Samuelsson's goal with 6:26 left capped the scoring.

On the power play early, the Avalanche got on the board on Jones' one-time blast from the right point that made its way through traffic at 4:06.

Just 4 1/2 minutes later, Colorado padded its lead with another goal on the power play from Duchene, whose tip-in at 8:39 provided a 2-0 advantage.

Ehrhoff got one back for Vancouver on the power play in the second, as he rifled a slapshot from the right point perfectly into the top left corner. The tally cut the team's deficit to 2-1 4 1/2 minutes into the period.

Game Notes

Vancouver began a five-game homestand Friday and is now 8-2-0 at home this season...The Canucks' Mason Raymond had one assist, giving him six points in four games against Colorado this season...Liles and T.J. Galiardi were activated off injured reserve before the game by the Avs.
