Ochoa still in front at suspended Tour Championship

Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Lorena Ochoa didn't hit a single shot on Friday, but remained atop the leaderboard at the LPGA Tour Championship.

A lengthy weather delay on Friday set the tournament back and caused the suspension of play for darkness. The action didn't get started until 2:00 p.m. (et) Friday afternoon because of storms and play was called sometime shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Ten players had to complete the first round on Friday after Thursday's round was stopped for darkness. No one finished the second round and the afternoon wave of tee times didn't play a hole.

The golfers will return at 8:00 a.m. Saturday to complete the second round. The plan is for the third round to begin sometime around 3:00 and for that round to be completed Sunday morning.

One thing working in the tournament's favor in terms of finishing by Sunday night is that there is a second cut. After the second-round cut, there is a third-round cut where the field is trimmed to the top-30 players for the final round.

However, the rain persisted through the play on Friday at The Houstonian Golf & Country Club and more downfalls are expected overnight and into Saturday morning.

But cutting the tournament to 54 holes does not appear to be an option.

"There's a ton of things riding on this tournament. Because of that and the importance of it, we are committed to playing 72 holes," said Doug Brecht, Vice President of Rules and Officials for the LPGA Tour. "I'm not gonna say 100 percent, but I'm gonna say we're gonna play 72 holes."

Perhaps the biggest thing riding on this tournament is the Player of the Year race.

Ochoa trails Jiyai Shin in her quest for a fourth Player of the Year honor. Shin shot a two-under 70 on Thursday and was part of the group that didn't play on Friday.

Reilley Rankin is still in second at five-under par and didn't play on Friday. Neither did Taylor Leon, who is tied for third at minus-four.

Sophie Gustafson is two-under through 11 holes of her second round and joined Leon in a share of third place.

Juli Inkster, Haeji Kang, Helen Alfredsson and Wendy Ward are at three-under par on the course. Kristy McPherson, Yani Tseng and Heather Bowie Young have yet to tee off in round two and shot three-under 69s on Thursday.
