Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Greg Monroe made a layup with 6.5 seconds remaining, as 19th-ranked Georgetown held on for a 46-45 win over Temple at the Verizon Center.

With the game deadlocked at 42-42 at the five minute mark, Temple got a layup from Lavoy Allen to go in front. The Owls went up by three following a Rahlir Jefferson 1-of-2 effort from the free-throw line with 2:21 remaining before Chris Wright countered with a pair from the stripe. Monroe's driving layup with 6.5 seconds left gave Georgetown a 46-45 lead.

Following a Temple timeout, Luis Guzman drove the length of the floor but was tied up under the basket, forcing a jump ball with two ticks left. The possession arrow was in favor of the Hoyas, forcing the Owls to foul. Monroe went to the line with 0.3 seconds remaining, missed both and as Craig Williams grabbed the rebound for Temple, time ran out and GU prevailed.

Wright finished with a game-high 15 points, while Monroe had 11 points and nine rebounds for Georgetown (2-0), which opened its season last Friday with a 74-58 win at Tulane. Austin Freeman donated 10 points.

Allen went for a team-high 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Ramone Moore chipped in with eight points off the bench for Temple (1-1), which garnered a season-opening 76-56 win at Delaware on Saturday.

The Hoyas controlled things for the early part of the second half as Wright's three-pointer put the hosts up 27-15 nearly three minutes in. However, Temple went on a 19-4 run, grabbing a 34-31 lead after a Williams jumper with 10 1/2 minutes to play.

Ryan Brooks' three-pointer stretched the Owls' advantage to six with 6:53 left, but Jason Clark drew GU even at 39 after hitting from beyond the arc with a shade under six minutes remaining.

In a lethargic start to the contest, each team struggled mightily from the floor in the early going, but Georgetown would get a pair of free throws from Wright to start a mini 10-4 run. After a Monroe hook shot fell, the Hoyas led 16-7 with just under six minutes left in the half.

Neither team was able to score in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the opening 20 and Georgetown took a 19-13 advantage into the intermission.

Game Notes

Despite the loss Temple still has a 21-14 edge in the all-time series with Georgetown...Temple had won 68 consecutive games when keeping its opponents to under 50 points.
