Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Philadelphia Flyers Thursday agreed to a two-year contract extension with veteran forward Sami Kapanen. Financial terms were not disclosed. Kapanen, who tallied 12 goals and 18 assists in 74 games for the Flyers last season, had one year remaining on a contract he signed with the club last summer. A nine-year NHL pro and two-time All-Star, Kapanen came to Philadelphia via a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes in February, 2003. The 31-year-old had spent his first seven-plus seasons with the Hartford-Carolina franchise. "The type of player (Sami) is is invaluable to a team," said Flyers general manager Bob Clarke. "There is nothing in the game, other than play goal, that Kapanen can't do and do at a high level." Kapanen has compiled 161 goals and 230 assists over 622 NHL games. His best season came with the Hurricanes in 2001-02, when the Finnish native posted career-highs of 27 goals and 42 assists and was named to his second All-Star game.
