Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Michelle Wie climbed to No. 12 in the world rankings after capturing her first LPGA Tour win on Sunday. Wie, 20, finally broke through for her maiden title -- a two-shot win over Paula Creamer at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational -- and moved up three places in the rankings. It isn't her highest career position. Wie was No. 3 in the initial rankings on Feb. 20, 2006 and climbed as high as No. 2 that year before the ranking system was changed, drastically affecting her position. She is playing her first season as an LPGA Tour member this year. Ochoa held onto the No. 1 position again and was followed by Jiyai Shin and Suzann Pettersen, who also kept their spots. Creamer moved up two places to fourth, Cristie Kerr remained fifth and Yani Tseng dropped two spots to sixth. Angela Stanford, Ai Miyazato, Karrie Webb, In Kyung Kim and Na Yeon Choi remained in positions 7 through 11, followed by Wie. Anna Nordqvist and Song-Hee Kim both dipped a spot to 13th and 14th, while Sakura Yokomine moved up two places to 15th. Catriona Matthew was down two places to 16th and Eun-Hee Ji dipped one to 17th. Shinobu Moromizato remained 18th and Mi-Jeong Jeon moved up one to 19th, dropping Sophie Gustafson to 20th. |
