Kings cap road trip against Panthers

(My Sportsbook) - The Los Angeles Kings conclude a five-game road trip tonight against the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center.

Los Angeles has endured an up-and-down swing, going 2-2-0 thus far. The Kings were hammered by a 7-0 margin on Friday in Atlanta before bouncing back with a 2-1 shootout win over Tampa Bay the following night.

Anze Kopitar scored the lone shootout tally and also assisted on Drew Doughty's regulation power-play goal. Kopitar upped his NHL-leading points total to 31 with the helper.

"With the game we had [Friday] night...that was not fun. It was a great bounce back for our team and I think it shows the character of this team that we never let down and nothing gets under our skin," said Kopitar.

Jonathan Quick gave up three goals on 14 shots versus the Thrashers, but stopped 28-of-29 shots faced on Saturday versus the Lightning and all three shootout skaters. He did appear to give up the winning goal in overtime, but the marker was waived off due to incidental contact with the goaltender.

Los Angeles is 7-5-1 on the road overall and has won two straight in Florida after going 0-4-0 with three ties in its first seven trips there. The Kings posted a 7-0 victory when the clubs last met in Sunrise on February 3, 2007 and have won four straight and five of the last six meetings overall in the series.

The Panthers are also coming off a shootout victory, a 4-3 triumph over the New York Islanders on Saturday. Nathan Horton had the decisive goal in the fourth round, sending a wrister past Islanders goaltender Dwayne Roloson.

"It has definitely worked in the past. So I was hoping it would work again, and it did," said Horton of his game-winner.

Cory Stillman, Stephen Weiss, Rostislav Olesz and Michael Frolik each had a goal in regulation for the Panthers, who have won five of their last seven games.

Tomas Vokoun finished with 36 saves in the win, which improved the Panthers to 3-5-0 at home this season.
