Packers rebound with convincing win over Dallas

Green Bay, WI (My Sportsbook) - Aaron Rodgers threw for 189 yards and a touchdown, and the Green Bay Packers dominated the Dallas Cowboys, 17-7, to hand Tony Romo his first-ever loss in November.

Rodgers completed 25-of-36 passes and also rushed for a score for Green Bay (5-4), which recovered in a big way after becoming the only team to lose to Tampa Bay this season. Ryan Grant ran for 79 yards on 19 carries, and Donald Driver caught four passes for 50 yards. Spencer Havner had a touchdown reception in the win.

"It was a big win for us, definitely," said Rodgers. "I think a lot of people were thinking this was going to be the end of the road for us and going to be a turning point for the negative for us this season. It feels good."

Charles Woodson had eight tackles, a sack, an interception and two forced fumbles for a staunch Packers defense, which sacked Romo a total of five times.

Romo, who came into the game with a perfect 13-0 November record, did not have a good return to his home state, recording 251 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception on 24-of-39 passing for the Cowboys (6-3), who had won their last previous games. Roy Williams caught five passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, and Marion Barber led a weak rushing attack with 26 yards on five carries.

"We made far too many mistakes," said Romo. "I don't mean just penalty-wise, obviously that is going to hurt you. We shot ourselves in the foot with mental mistakes. We just did too many things that were out of character for this football team and that is too much to overcome when you continually do that throughout a football game."

The first half was a defensive struggle.

Dallas drove down to the Green Bay 20 on its first drive, but Nick Folk pushed a 38-yard field goal attempt wide left.

The Packers responded by giving Mason Crosby a 52-yard field goal attempt, but his kick sailed wide left, too, and the game remained scoreless.

A series of punts ended the first quarter and began the second, until Dallas got the ball on their own 28 with four minutes until halftime. Romo hit Williams in stride for a 42-yard gain, but Williams fumbled at the Packers' 30, and Green Bay recovered at the 31.

On the final play of the half, Crosby drilled a 48-yard field goal for a 3-0 Packers lead.

The third quarter was more of the same, with three straight punts opening up the period. The Packers got the ball with just under six minutes left on their own 20 and drove 80 yards in 15 plays, taking 8:36 off the clock.

On 3rd-and-11 from the Green Bay 34, Rodgers hit Greg Jennings for a 14-yard completion, and Rodgers found Donald Lee for a 17-yard gain on 3rd-and-13 from the Packers' 45 for another key first down.

In the early moments of the fourth, on another third down -- 3rd-and-6 from the Dallas eight-yard line -- Rodgers completed a seven-yard pass to Jordy Nelson. On the next play, Rodgers snuck over the goal line for a 10-0 lead with 13:14 to play.

On the ensuing possession, Romo fumbled on second down after he was sacked. Felix Jones appeared to recover the fumble for Dallas, but the ball popped out while he was on the ground. Clay Matthews recovered for the Packers at the Cowboys' three-yard line, and Rodgers threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Haver three plays later for a 17-0 advantage with 10:49 on the clock.

Dallas tried to avoid the shutout late, driving down to the one-yard line with six minutes remaining, but Woodson made a diving interception to end the series.

The Cowboys, though, did point some points on the board, as Williams caught a nine-yard touchdown pass with under a minute to play.

Game Notes

The Packers, who came into the game having allowed a league-high 37 sacks, gave up four sacks on Sunday, including two to DeMarcus Ware...These two teams came into the game the two most penalized clubs in the league: The Packers had 12 penalties for 100 yards, while the Cowboys had 10 penalties for 67 yards...Green Bay held the ball for 35:58...Cowboys offensive tackle Marc Colombo broke his left leg in the first quarter and is out indefinitely...Dallas has not been shut out since November 16, 2003, when Quincy Carter was the quarterback.
