New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Florida remained the top team in the latest Associated Press college
football poll, while Alabama moved past Texas into the second spot and perennial powerhouse Southern California dropped 11 spots after its latest surprising loss.
The Gators (10-0) received 36 first-place votes, three fewer than last week, and a total of 1,463 points from a nationwide media panel to retain the top spot. Florida ran its winning streak to 20 straight games Saturday with a 24-14 victory at South Carolina to complete a perfect SEC campaign with games remaining against FIU and Florida State before the conference championship showdown with Alabama on December 5.
Alabama (10-0) trailed Texas by just eight total points last week and a 31-3 rout at Mississippi State convinced enough voters to push the Crimson Tide ahead of the Longhorns (10-0), who breezed past Baylor, 47-14.
The Crimson Tide notched 14 first-place votes, three more than last week, and 1,429 points, while Texas again garnered 10 top tallies and a total of 1,424 points.
TCU, Cincinnati, Boise State, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh kept their spots from fourth through eighth, while Ohio State and LSU swapped places to complete this week's top 10. TCU, Cincinnati and Boise State remained unbeaten this weekend. Ohio State claimed a share of the Big Ten title and the conference's BCS berth with an overtime win against Iowa, while LSU had a lackluster victory over Louisiana Tech.
The second 10 consists of Oregon, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Stanford, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Clemson, BYU and Oregon State. The Beavers are ranked for the first time this season.
Stanford had the biggest jump within the poll, vaulting 11 spots from 25th after its stunning 55-21 victory at Southern California. The loss dropped the Trojans 11 spots from 11th to 22nd.
Miami-Florida, USC, Utah, Houston and Rutgers are the last five teams ranked this week. Each of the first four teams among the final five lost on Saturday. Miami fell nine spots from 12th after a loss to North Carolina, while Utah dropped seven places after losing at TCU and Houston tumbled 11 places from 13th after stumbling at UCF.
Rutgers, which counts two FCS wins among its seven and has played just three road games, moved into the poll for the first time this season. The Scarlet Knights dominated South Florida last Thursday in a 31-0 victory, knocking the Bulls out of this week's poll.
Also falling out was Arizona, which dropped a 24-16 decision at California on Saturday.
