Colin White, Matt Halischuk and Zach Parise also scored for the Devils, who have won 11 of their last 12 games and can take a share of the NHL record book with their 10th straight road win to start the season with a win at Philadelphia on Monday.
Martin Brodeur stopped 27 shots for the win.
Tomas Fleischmann and Mathieu Perreault tallied for the Capitals, who had won four in a row coming in, all without star forward Alex Ovechkin.
Jose Theodore took the loss after allowing all five goals on 23 shots.
Langenbrunner's man-advantage goal at the 5:44 mark of the second tied the game at two and Parise put the home team ahead with 5:20 left in the middle period.
Halischuk netted his first career goal to put the Devils up by two inside the final minute, and Murphy extended the lead to 5-2 at 3:15 of the third.
Brodeur stopped all eight shots he faced over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.
Washington showed no signs of slowing down despite the absences of Ovechkin and Mike Knuble, scoring twice in a 47-second span early on.
Fleischmann hit the net on a power play at 4:15 and Perreault doubled the advantage at 5:02, before White halved the Devils' deficit at 9:47.
